The inspiration for Ohana Kitchen starts with Patsy who was born in the Philippines and moved to the island of Oahu when she was 10 years old. Her family settled in Waimanalo on the Windward side of the island. The islands (and specifically Oahu) are a melting pot of different ethnicities: Native Hawaiian, Filipino, Japanese, Chinese, and Portuguese to name just a few. Each culture brings their own style of food and it contributes to what we now call "plate lunch". An ono (delicious) combination of cuisine from each background. Patsy has spent her life eating and cooking many of these delicious meals.
In 1983, Patsy met Tim, an Albany native, who was stationed with the Marines on Oahu. They were married in 1985 and have been married for 39 years this year. Since then they have had four beautiful children and moved back to Albany in 1997. They have been servicing the Willamette Valley with their delivery business for the past 20+ years. They have added a few daughter and son-in-laws, and have been blessed with 10 grandchildren (two of who are not pictured due to them living out of state).
Patsy was raised with the philosophy of e komo mai (come in, all are welcome). Large family get togethers were just part of every day life and it was important to continue that tradition with her own family. Patsy and Tim have always had an open door policy welcoming everyone into their home with ho'okipa (welcoming all with the Spirit of Aloha which is a way of living and treating others with love and respect, complete giving). This can make things a little bit more chaotic but the value of building relationships and investing in people has always out weighed the stress. Patsy has a way of making every single person feel loved, welcomed and valued. If you attend a Wallace get together you are guaranteed to leave with your cup...and stomach full.
Patsy's knack for cooking and hospitality had her children encouraging her to share her food and light with the rest of the community. Ohana Kitchen was born with the support from the whole family and they felt the name, which means "Family Kitchen", was only fitting.
In March of 2024, we were blessed to be able to open a second location in Albany and continue to grow our reach in our community.
A note from the Wallace Ohana:
We are so excited to share our passion for authentic Hawaiian plate lunch, but we are even more excited to love on our community through our food and hospitality. We believe in building relationships and investing in people through the love of Christ. We feel incredibly blessed to have this opportunity and we can't wait to share it with each of you. Mahalo (thank you) for your support!
Aloha nui loa (with much love),
